Solan: Chairman of the townships municipal council Pawan Gupta, a BJP candidate today, in a division of votes lost a no confidence motion unseating him from the position as 10 councillors voted against him and only 5 were in his favour.
Rakesh Kanwar, the district magistrate made the result public by stating that Pawan Gupta had lost the vote of confidence on the floor of the house as majority of the councillors did vote against him.
In the 15-member house, 11 members, which included Congress councillors had moved a no confidence motion against Pawan Gupta, charging him for flouting the Municipal Acts and of favouring his kith and kin.
On May 27, the Kanwar had declared that 11 councillors had demanded ousting of the chairman forthwith and had moved a no confidence motion against him.
Voting on the motion was held today and Ekta Kapta, a SDM was the returning officer for the meeting. The voting was held by secret ballot. Whereas 11 councilors had moved the no confidence motion, interestingly only 10 voted against him.
Having lost the confidence vote, charge of chairman has been given to MC’s vice-chairperson Meera Anand, till further orders.
Solan is the third most populous town in the state after Shimla and Mandi. Pawan Gupta from BJP was elected as Chairman of Solan MC in Mar 2015.
