New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee Tuesday congratulated the Indian space agency on the successful launch of the country’s first navigation satellite.
“I congratulate you and your team on the successful launch of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS),” Mukherjee said in a message to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K. Radhakrishnan.
The IRNSS was successfully placed in orbit by an Indian rocket Monday midnight. With the successful launch of the first of the seven planned satellites, India took the first step in joining the select group of nations having such a system.
“This launch of India’s first dedicated navigation satellite is a significant milestone in the progress of our space programme and space applications,” the president said in his message.
