New Delhi, July 3 (IANS) Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch said Wednesday that the process is nearly over for finalising the appointment of the director for the National School of Drama (NSD).
“The previous director was supposed to retire in 2011, but she was given an extension of a year. The process for the appointment of a new director began in August 2012,” Katoch said at a press conference here.
“The process is nearly over,” she said.
As news of the delay in the appointment of the director for the drama school did the rounds, academics and theatre artistes wrote to the union ministry of culture, seeking that the matter be attended to, without delay.
“We had sent the file to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in February. There is a process we follow to get the final approval. They had some queries and everything got delayed because of this,” Katoch said.
A source revealed that the previous director had made certain changes in the selection committee, and queries were raised by the PMO in that regard, causing the delay.
