New Delhi, June 8 (IANS) A top Maoist was killed Saturday in a shootout with the security forces in Chhattisgarh, an official said here.
Udham Singh, general secretary of the area committee, was killed in a gunfight in Bukmar forest in Rajnandgaon district with the joint forces of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and police.
According to the ITBP, Udham Singh carried a reward of Rs.2 lakh.
“We got a tip-off that a group of six Maoists were camping in the forest. We raided them around 8.30 a.m. and the gunfight ensued,” said a ITBP official.
While Udham Singh died on the spot, his associates, two of whom were wounded managed to flee.
“We have recovered ammunition and weapons from the camp,” added the official.
