Bangkok, June 6 (IANS) World No.2 Saina Nehwal marched into the quarterfinals of the Thailand Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament here Thursday with a convincing victory over Singapore’s Juan Gu.
The Indian, who is the top seed in the tournament, took just 31 minutes to dispose of her second round opponent 21-13, 21-11.
Saina put on a dominant display of her net game, winning 10 points to the Singaporeans six.
Arundhati Pantawane failed to get past the second round as she was soundly beaten 16-21, 13-21 by local shuttler and fifth seed Sapsiree Taerattanachai.
Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Prannoy H.S. moved into the quarterfinals after ousting compatriot and 10th seed Anand Pawar 19-21, 21-13, 21-15.
Srikanth K, 13th seed, beat Hwang Jong Soo of South Korea 21-19, 21-15 to book his place in the quarters.
Sai Praneeth B, though, failed to emulate his countrymen, going down 18-21, 21-16, 19-21 to Indonesia’s Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo.
Prannoy will next take on Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo while Srikanth will pit his skills against South Korea’s Wan Ho Son.
