Srinivasan came to venue hours in advance

Chennai, June 2 (IANS) Even though the crucial meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) here was slated for 2.30 p.m. Sunday, president N. Srinivasan, whose future was to be decided, reached the venue a couple of hours in advance.

Reporters who were waiting at the ITC Park Sheraton Hotel, the meeting venue, speculated that Srinivasan, an orthodox Tamil Brahmin, wanted to reach the venue when the time was auspicious (10.30-11.30 a.m.), well ahead of the ‘yamakandam’ or inauspicious time (noon-1.30 p.m.).

At the end of the meeting, Srinivasan technically continued to retain his current post. But Jagmohan Dalmiya, a former BCCI president and the current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), was asked to conduct the day-to-day affairs of the board.

As if to cool down the media tempers against Srinivasan and to bless the decision taken at the meeting, it rained for some time here when the meeting was coming to an end.
