New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) The South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships will be organised in Delhi instead of Jharkhand capital Ranchi.
The July 20-22 event will take place at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex and most South Asian countries are expected to take part in it.
“The secretary of Jharkhand state body expressed his inability to host the tournament owing to personal reasons. So we were forced to shift the event out of there,” Dhanraj Choudhary, secretary general at the Table Tennis Federation of India, told IANS.
Table Tennis returns to Indira Gandhi stadium after a long gap as most major tournaments have taken place at the Thyagaraj Stadium since the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The 2012 South Asian Championships was organised in Shillong. The winner of the competition qualifies for the Asian Juniors in Qatar in September.
