Shimla: To encourage organic farming in hills, International Centre for Organic Agriculture in collaboration with HP Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) is hosting a three day organic fair and food festival starting from 28 June.
To cash on the tourist season, the food festival is being held in the city centre at The Mall, in the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, a government communiqué stated.
Aim of organising this fair was to create awareness regarding organic farming and organic products amongst farmers and the people. The main attraction would be be Organic Food Court of Himachali cuisine, said a HPTDC spokesman.
The festival would also include organic produce exhibits cum sale stalls by different farmers groups. The festival would also hold workshops and conduct exposure visits of the farmers of the state to acquaint them with this emerging niche area for farm produces.
CSK Agriculture University, Palampur would also be setting up stalls to highlight research and development in organic agriculture, said the festival spokesman.
Besides the farmer groups, national and international companies engaged in marketing of organic produce and organic certification would also take part.
There are 25729 farmers in Himachal Pradesh who are registered for organic farming. A meeting with marketing agencies for organic food with farmers is also scheduled to be held during the three day festival.
