Regional parties will do well in 2014: Mamata

Kolkata, June 5 (IANS) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said regional parties will perform well in the 2014 general election and parried a query on whether her party would be at the forefront of any non-Congress and non-BJP coalition.

“I think the regional parties would come up with a good show in the next general election,” Banerjee, also West Bengal chief minister, told mediapersons at the state secretariat.

She said she would be happy if the regional parties joined hands.

On whether she was ready to lead a grouping of non-Congress and non-BJP parties in New Delhi after the next general elections, Banerjee replied that she did not “care for power or chair”.

“I am happy to be a worker. Let anybody come forward, I have no problem. I don’t care for power or for the chair. I want to work in the people’s interest.”

Banerjee said her party quit the UPA-2 government last September only to safeguard the people’s interest.

Ridiculing the Congress, she said: “It has drawn a zero in the current by-polls.”
