Kolkata, June 9 (IANS) An Irish national who was allegedly raped here has been admitted to a nursing home following an overdose of prescription drugs, an official said Sunday.
“She was admitted to our nursing home following an overdose of prescription drugs. Though her condition is stable, she is in the intensive care unit (ICU),” a spokesperson of Calcutta Medical Research Institute said.
The woman, associated with a Darjeeling-based NGO, was found unconscious in her hotel room here, following which she was hospitalised Saturday. She is yet to regain consciousness.
Police refused to comment if she attempted suicide.
The 21-year-old had lodged a complaint June 1 that she was raped by her male friend at his residence in Kolkata’s Kalighat area. Sujoy Mitra, a city businessman, was arrested.
The West Bengal Human Rights Commission has directed a probe into the alleged rape.
