Patna, June 2 (IANS) Polling was under way Sunday in by-election to the Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat in Bihar.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Umashankar Singh.
The main candidates are Janata Dal-United’s P.K. Sahi, the state education minister, RJD’s Prabhunath Singh and Jitendra Swami of Congress who is the son of Umashankar Singh.
The JD-U is backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party while the RJD has the support of the Lok Janshakti Party.
Some 15 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise across 1,478 polling booths, half of which have been declared “sensitive” in view of security concerns.
