Philips India unveils innovative childcare products

Bangalore, June 27 (IANS) Philips Electronics India Ltd Thursday unveiled a range of healthcare products designed and developed at its innovative campus here for infants and mothers.

Among the products for mother and child care are Philips Efficia range of infant warmers and incubators to reduce infant mortality, BiliCheck transcutaneous bilirubinometer phototherapy system and NeoPAP respiratory support solution for neonates.

“India loses over three lakh babies every year. Many of the deaths are premature and low-birth infants exposed to hypothermia wherein a infant’s body temperature drops below normal required for metabolism and body function,” Philips India chief executive Wido Menhard told reporters at a demo event of the products here.

As other causes of child deaths are neonatal jaundice and respiratory distress, their products are intended to reduce infant mortality, which is the need of the hour in India, he said.

“The products are in line with our commitment to focus on next generation healthcare solutions and provide value to our customers through cost-effective solutions and greater efficiencies,” Menhard said.

The products are also custom-built for corporate hospitals as well as tier-two cities and primary health centres.

“It is important to monitor the bilirubin levels in infants since neonatal jaundice is common in newborn babies, affecting half of them in the first two weeks of life,” Philips Healthcare India president Krishnakumar said on the occasion.

The BiliChek measures bilirubin levels in a non-invasive manner making use of light instead of a needle, reducing pain and trauma to babies. The solution can be used without a lab test and its result.

Similarly, BiliTX wraps babies in healing light. Neonatal jaundice can be treated through phototherapy.

These products also help infant’s growth normal and their mothers to be healthy.

NeoPAP provides a hi-tech neonatal delivery system to treat newborns and infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).

“The product’s non-invasive and dynamic system features a lightweight interface made of soft, skin-friendly silicone to ensure patient comfort and safety,” Krishnakumar asserted.

As a research and development (R&D) division of the Dutch major’s Indian subsidiary, the innovation centre focuses developing products in healthcare, lifestyle, consumer care and lighting and employs about 2,500 software professionals.
