Washington, June 3 (IANS) Indiana Pacers centre Roy Hibbert was fined $75,000 by the National Basketball Association (NBA) for “inappropriate language”.
Hibbert used an anti-gay slur in one answer and swore in another during the post-game press conference after Pacers beat defending champions Miami Heat 91-77 Saturday, causing NBA to fine him Sunday, reports Xinhua.
Asked about his defence on Miami superstar LeBron James, Hibbert ended his response with the phrase “no homo”.
Hibbert apologised in a statement issued by the Pacers for “insensitive remarks”.
“They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views,” said Hibbert.
“I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum,” he said.
