Rio de Janeiro, June 5 (IANS) Fluminense confirmed the departure of highly rated midfielder Wellington Nem to Ukrainian football club Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Rio de Janeiro outfit accepted an offer of $12.5 million for the 21-year-old to leave on a five-year contract, reports Xinhua.
Fluminense coach Abel Braga Tuesday expressed his disappointment at losing one of his most creative midfielders but conceded that the club’s precarious financial position made the offer impossible to refuse.
“As the coach I am sorry to see him go but knowing the club’s situation off the field it is necessary,” Braga said.
Nem will be the 10th Brazilian in the Ukrainian club’s squad alongside Fernandinho, Luiz Adriano, Maicon, Douglas Costa, Alan Patrick, Taison, Alex Teixeira, Ismaily and Ilsinho.
He has won three caps for Brazil, having made his international debut under Mano Menezes in a 3-1 victory over Denmark last year.
