Hamilton (Bermuda), June 18 (IANS/CMC) Bermudian long jumper Tyrone Smith has qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, leaping to a season’s best 8.13 metres at a meet in Poland.
Smith’s jump saw him finish second at the 59th Janusz Kusocinski Memorial Meet in Szczecin, reports CMC.
Smith, 28, a two-time Olympian, recently won at a meet in France, and placed fourth in the Czech Republic.
He tweeted: “Just qualified for Moscow 2013 with a new season’s best 8.13m!
“Congrats to Luis Rivera or his 8.30m New Mexican national record!”
Smith made it to the long jump finals at last summer’s London Olympics where he placed 12th.
The World Athletics Championships will be held in the Russian capital from Aug 10-18.
