Kolkata, June 11 (IANS) Over 500 journalists from Kolkata and other districts Tuesday took out a march protesting against the recent attacks on two journalists from Bengali news channels by alleged Trinamool Congress activists.
The march began from the Press Club, Kolkata, and wound its way through the busy Mayo Road, Jawahar Lal Nehru Road, and Dorina Crossing before returning to the Press Club.
Representatives from several electronic and print media houses and journalist associations took part in the march.
“We have taken out the procession to protest against the dastardly attack on our colleagues. It is a cause for concern. We also want security for media persons. The government should give a serious thought to this. There should be a proper security in place,” said Press Club secretary Anindya Sengupta.
The two journalists are still hospitalised with multiple injuries after they were badly beaten up June 7 while covering a clash allegedly between two rival factions of the Trinamool Congress in Barrackpore, some 25 km from Kolkata.
