Jayalalithaa breaks ground for mega TNPL project

Chennai, June 3 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Monday said areas with big industries develop faster by not only providing employment to those working there but also developing ancillary industries.

Laying the foundation stone for several projects, including an industrial park at an outlay of Rs.107 crore and the Rs.1,200 crore multi-layer double-coated board project of Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Ltd (TNPL) at Srirangam in Tiruchirapalli district, Jayalalithaa said: “Not only do the new industries create employment opportunities but also develop the ancillary sector and the overall growth of the economy in that area.”

Jayalalithaa was elected from the Srirangam constituency in the May 2011 elections. Trichy is around 350 km from here.

She said the new industrial park, to be set up on 1,077 acres in Manaparai, will attract investment of around Rs.3,000 crore and provide employment to around 25,000 people.

Jayalalithaa said the 200,000 tonne per annum TNPL project will provide employment to around 1,200 people.
