New Delhi, June 15 (IANS) Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ajay Maken resigned Saturday, saying he wanted to work for the Congress party, informed sources said.
Maken, who is a Delhi MP and considered close to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, could be the new face of the Congress in Delhi, where assembly polls are scheduled this year-end, the sources said.
In the past, Rahul Gandhi has intervened twice, asking Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and state party chief J.P. Agarwal to sink their differences and work unitedly.
Sources said while Agarwal could replace Maken in a likely cabinet reshuffle, Maken could be named the new state party chief.
