Panaji, June 10 (IANS) The CBI will now probe the rape of a seven-year-old girl, five months after Goa Police failed to nab the accused, an official said her Monday.
A Goa government spokesperson said the case has been formally handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday.
“The notification specifically mentions that consent is accorded with regard to the investigation in the case of the rape of the seven-year-old girl,” the spokesperson said.
The child’s rape in January in a school toilet during recess and subsequent attempts by the school’s headmistress and other staffers to hush up the incident triggered a law and order situation in Vasco, a port town 35 km from here.
The school’s headmistress and a staffer have already been arrested for trying to destroy evidence and delaying the intimation to the police about the rape, but the main accused is still untraced and on the run.
