New Delhi: The German embassy here has tied up with an NGO to create awareness about the importance of protecting the girl child in the capital.
As part of “Meri Shakti, Meri Beti” (MSMB) project, the Centre for Social Research and the German embassy are spreading awareness about female foeticide in Delhi by involving society to share the responsibility of protecting daughters.
In Delhi, the sex ratio is 836 girls per 1,000 boys.
As per the recent census of 2011, though neighboring Gurgaon has the highest literacy rate of 84.7 per cent, it has the dismal ratio of 854 women to 1,000 men.
“A comparison with the previous census shows that Gurgaon’s sex ratio 10 years ago stood at 850:1,000, while Rohtak and Jhajjar had 847 and Panipat had 829 girls for 1,000 boys,” said Ranjana Kumari, director of Centre for social Research.
