Madrid, June 16 (IANS) A fire broke out Saturday at the Alcazar Theatre in Madrid, but firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze. Performances at the theatre have been suspended for the whole weekend.
The Alcazar Theatre, one of the most famous theatres in Madrid, was inaugurated in 1925. It has more than 800 seats, Xinhua reported. It is located in the central street of Alcala.
The fire started on the sixth floor of the building around 10 a.m.. The cause of the blaze was not known.
In 1983, a fire in a night club in the basement of the theatre killed 82 people, most of them youngsters.
