New Delhi, June 5 (IANS) A Delhi Court Wednesday acquitted Congress legislator Mateen Ahmed and his associate Jameer Ahmed, who had challenged their three-year jail term awarded for rioting.
Mateen Ahmed, the legislator from Seelampur, and Jameer Ahmed, an ex-councillor, were convicted and sent to jail by a magisterial court for rioting and obstructing government officials closing down polluting industries in 2001.
Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Kumar set aside the judgement of a magisterial court passed in January this year and acquitted both the men.
They approached the sessions court challenging the order of a magistrate, saying it would bar them from contesting the next elections.
