New Delhi, June 5 (IANS) A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable was in critical condition Wednesday after being shot accidentally during a mock drill at a Delhi Metro station, officials said.
The incident took place at the Rohini West station in north Delhi.
Sub-Inspector Sita Ram, 45, fired from his service weapon without knowing that it was loaded. The bullet hit constable Ritesh Tripathi, 25, and pierced through his ribs, a CISF official said.
Tripathi, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was admitted to the Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital in critical condition.
CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said a probe has been ordered into the incident as participants are not allowed to carry loaded weapons during mock drills.
A case of negligence has also been registered by Delhi Police, he added.
Police have collected CCTV footage from the station to ascertain the sequence of events, while the sub-inspector has been detained.
