New Delhi, June 10 (IANS) A 25-year-old chain snatcher shot himself dead after firing at a policeman who was chasing him Monday afternoon, police said. His accomplice is on the run.
The shooting occurred in Narela area in west Delhi around 2.30 p.m. The injured policeman has been hospitalised.
“Kuldeep and his accomplice snatched a gold chain from Ajit, who was on a scooter near Satyawadi Raja Harish Chand Hospital nearby, and sped away on their motorcycle. On hearing Ajit shouting, Delhi Police constable Satendra gave them a chase on his motorcycle,” said a police officer.
“Kuldeep shot Satendra in his chest and fled,” the officer said.
The snatcher duo entered a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flat nearby. Panicked people called police, who summoned reinforcements and surrounded the flat. On being challenged, Kuldeep came out and shot himself in the head.
Police said Kuldeep died on the spot. He had a criminal record.
