Bangalore to sport Wyndham Grand Hotel property by 2020

Chennai, June 14 (IANS) Sensing good market potential in Bangalore for luxury hotel rooms, global hospitality major Wyndham Hotel Group has signed up a franchisee agreement with Sammy’s Dreamland Co. Ltd. for a Wyndham Grand hotel to come up there by 2020, said a company official.

“We have signed a franchisee agreement with Sammy’s Dreamland for a Wyndham Grand hotel, the second Wyndham Grand property in India after the Agra hotel,” Deepika Arora, regional president-Indian Ocean at Wyndham Hotel Group, told IANS.

The 180-room Wyndham Grand Bangalore Yelahanka property is part of the group’s aggressive expansion plan in India to develop nearly 70 hotels and increase the inventory to 8,000 rooms within the next five years under the Ramada, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Dream and Days Inn brands.

The hotel expected to go on stream in 2020 will be part of the Sammy’s Grand Palace, the latest 75-acre residential project developed by Sammy’s Dreamland.

“There will be a five-acre landscaped garden with a manmade lagoon. Out of the total 180 rooms, 150 will be the standard guest rooms and 30 will be suites. The hotel will have four restaurants, a large outdoor swimming pool and a spa,” Arora said.

The property will additionally include two conference and banquet halls catering to large-scale social engagements and business events.

She said with around 20,000 sq.ft of banqueting area (one hall measuring 14,000 sq.ft and another 6,000 sq. ft), the hotel will target the meetings/conventions market in a major way and would also target the large software and expat segment in Bangalore.

“I see Bangalore as a market offering good opportunities for star hotels. The branded room supply is around 7,000 and the proposed supply by 2016 is around 10,000 rooms which mean there is a good demand,” Arora said.

She said two more properties sporting one of the Wyndham’s brands will be opened in Bangalore soon.

According to her, the Wyndham group has nearly doubled its room presence in India in the last couple of years.

Currently Wyndham Hotel Group has 17 operational properties in India with a total room inventory of 1,852 under the Ramada, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Dream and Days Inn brands.

She said the group is looking at tier 2 and 3 Indian cities apart from tier 1 cities to sign up franchisee agreements.

“Though in other countries the group has started signing up management contracts, in India the focus is on franchisee agreements till now,” Arora added.

She said nine more properties will be opened in 2013 sporting different Wyndham brands.
