Baba stays media manager on Windies tour

Mumbai, June 19 (IANS) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Wednesday rewarded media manager R.N. Baba for keeping the media at bay in the Champions Trophy by asking him to stay with the India team on its forthcoming tour the West Indies for the tri-series.

Baba became unpopular with the media at the way he handled India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s press conference before the team left for the Champions Trophy in Mumbai. He stopped reporters from asking questions related to spot-fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Baba is an official of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and is reportedly close to Board president N. Srinivasan. He had been the media manager the last season as well. Baba’s son Aparajith was a part of the World Cup winning U-19 India team and is also contracted with Chennai Super Kings.

Besides Baba, M.V. Sridhar has been appointed team manager for the tri-series in the West Indies.

The other members of the support staff are Duncan Fletcher (coach), Joseph Dawes (bowling coach), Trevor Penney (fielding coach), Nitin Patel (physiotherapist), R. Srinivasan (trainer), Amit Shah (yoga and massage therapist), C.K.M.Dhananjai (video analyst), Ramesh Mane (masseur), M.A. Satheesh (logistics manager)

Meanwhile, it was also decided that Arindam Ganguly will be the manager of the under-19 Indian team that will participate in a tri-series in Australia, in June-July 2013.

Bharat Arun will be the coach, Anand Date the fitness trainer, Sreeniwas Rao the physiotherapist and Ashutosh Dandige the video analyst.
