Ghaziabad, June 15 (IANS) An auto thief, reportedly picked up for questioning in connection with a missing vehicle, died in police custody in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad town, police said Saturday.
Shakeel, a resident of Dasna in Ghaziabad district, succumbed to injuries sustained earlier while under treatment at a hospital in Ghaziabad around 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.
“On a complaint from the victim’s father, an FIR (first information report) has been registered against eight police personnel. All eight have been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been ordered,” Senior Superintendent of Police Nitin Tiwari said.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jagdish Sharma has been named inquiry officer in the case.
“In addition to the departmental inquiry, a magisterial inquiry has also been ordered by the district magistrate,” Tiwari said.
