Lusaka (Zambia), May 14 (IANS) The Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) named a 14-member squad for the ICC Africa U-19 World Cup Qualifiers (CWCQ) Division 1 tournament Tuesday.
ZCU president Reuben Chama said the union was confident that the team would put up a good show at the tournament that was initially scheduled to be hosted by Kenya in August but has now been shifted to Uganda. The tournament will be held from May 24-30 and the official said the change of dates has seriously affected the preparations as it would now take place during school days, reports Xinhua.
“We now have to get permission from various schools as this tournament was initially set for August but had to be brought forward. This means us needing to do things in a hurry. It will be difficult to even prepare the team adequately looking at the time remaining,” he said.
Zambia are in Pool A along with Namibia, Tanzania and hosts Uganda while Pool B has Kenya, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Botswana.
Zambia kick off their campaign with a match against Uganda May 25 before taking on Namibia the following day.
