Gaborone (Bostwana), May 22 (IANS) The president of the world motorsport governing body, Federation Internationale de I’ Automobile (FIA), Jean Todt is scheduled to visit Botswana in August, Botswana Motorsport Association (BMSA) has confirmed.
BMSA secretary general Joseph Khengere said Tuesday they had been in consultations with the FIA since affiliating to them earlier this year and the president will pay a visit to Botswana, reports Xinhua.
Khengere said Botswana stands to benefit a lot from Todt’s visit because the country is new within FIA circles. According to him, Botswana had been considered as part of South Africa, but recently managed to secure its own FIA affiliation, hence the visit.
He said Todt would meet all the stakeholders, including government officials, the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and Botswana Tourism (BT) officials during the visit.
He also informed by virtue of being affiliated to FIA, Botswana could now organise events with little external help. The country would have its own trained personnel to run big events.
