Berlin, May 7 (IANS) Goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller extended his contract with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund until 2016, the club said on its official homepage.
Weidenfeller has worn the jersey of the “Borussians” since 2002, making make 282 appearances. On account of the recent developments such as reaching the UEFA Champions League final, Weidenfeller Monday decided to extend his current contract with was set prolong his expiring 2014 contract, reports Xinhua.
“We are happy that Roman gave us an assurance. He is an exceptionally strong keeper and consistently performed well with a large share on winning German championship 2011 and 2012, and on reaching the Champions League final this season,” Dortmund sporting manager Michael Zorc said in an official press release.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper drove Real Madrid’s squad to desperation at the Champions League semi finals as he secured his side the final due to numerous crucial saves.
“I have never thought on a transfer to another club. I am proud to be a part of a team with such a strength of character and a mix of young and old players,” Weidenfeller said.
