Paris, May 27 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Swiss tennis star Stanislas Wawrinka returned to the ATP world top 10 Monday as French Open first-round play continues.
Wawrinka’s return is the only move in an otherwise unchanged top 10 headed by world No.1 Novak Djokovic, ahead of Britain’s Andy Murray, Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Spain’s Rafael Nadal.
Wawrinka’s rise comes at the cost of Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic, who drops two places to 12th while Croatia’s Marin Cilic rises one to take the 11th spot vacated by Wawrinka.
Argentina’s Juan Monaco rises two spots to 17th after winning the Dusseldorf Open Saturday, dropping France’s Gilles Simon and Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber down a place.
The biggest mover in the top 100 is Spanish veteran Albert Montanes, whose win at the Nice Open Saturday propels him 35 places to 47th in the world.
There are are no changes in the top 20 of the women’s WTA rankings where American star Serena Williams remains No.1 ahead of Russia’s Maria Sharapova and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.
There are big moves as China’s Shuai Peng soars 11 places to No.23 after coming second in Brussels to Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi, up 14 at No.26.
There will be no new rankings until June 10, after the French Open concludes.
