Kolkata, May 14 (IANS) Two people were injured and train movement was hit when the engine and three coaches of Kolkata-Haldibari Intercity Express got derailed in West Bengal’s Birbhum Tuesday, the Eastern Railway said.
One of the injured was released after administering first-aid, while the other wounded was being brought to the B R Singh Hospital for further treatment, an ER release said.
Following the derailment in between Nalhati and Chatra stations, about 235 km from Kolkata, in ER’s Howrah division, two local passenger trains were cancelled, while eight express trains had to be diverted. Two express trains were rescheduled.
Accident relief trains and medical vans have been sent from Rampurhat and Sahibganj to the accident site.
Senior railway officials were camping at the site.
A special train left Rampurhat for Malda to clear the stranded passengers.
