Berlin, May 21 (IANS) Veteran singer-songwriter Ray Manzarek died Monday night at his home in Rosenheim, Germany. He was suffering from cancer. He was 74.
“He had been fighting bile duct cancer,” thesun.co.uk quoted Manzarek’s publicist as saying.
Born in Chicago in 1939, Manzarek was the keyboardist with the legendary rock band band The Doors (1965) co-founded by Manzarek and Jim Morrison in Los Angeles.
The band, which also included drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger, sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
They have given hits like “The End”, “Light My Fire” and “Break On Through”.
“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him,” said Krieger.
After Morisson’s death in 1971 Manzarek continued with the band and took over on vocals before the group officially split in 1973.
