Kolkata, May 14 (IANS) The students wing of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) Tuesday staged demonstration in central Kolkata demanding a proper probe into the chit fund scam, arrest of those involved and compensation to the depositors.
The outfit, which had fought the previous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in alliance with the Trinamool Congress but later dissociated from the ruling party, alleged that the police had baton-charged its student activists.
Police, however, denied the charge and said the demonstrators were only chased away.
Seven student activists were arrested after they broke police barricades.
