New Delhi: Picturesque Srinagar is the most preferred tourist destination across India, a survey revealed today.
The ‘Popular Summer Destination, 2013’ was conducted by railyatri.in which is the official data research and development partner of the Indian Railways.
Data was collected from 2,000 respondents via an online poll conducted on various platforms such as the official website of Indian Railways and popular social media sites.
Over 76 percent of the respondents preferred hill stations for a holiday and a majority of them, at 63 percent favoured hill stations in northern India, the survey revealed.
At 29 percent, Srinagar secured the maximum votes from the respondents followed by Shimla at 22 percent and Darjeeling at 12.5 percent.
“The poll witnessed maximum travel interest for north Indian destinations. Popular locations such as Srinagar, Shimla, Rishikesh, Ladakh etc drew maximum votes,” said the survey.
North India was followed by central India which received 22 percent of the votes while popular spots like Darjeeling, Shillong etc. helped eastern part of India to gather 18 percent of the votes and south India got 17 percent votes.
