New Delhi, May 16 (IANS) Union Sports Minister Jitendra Singh has sought strict action against those found guilty in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal which broke Thursday.
Three Rajasthan Royals players – S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila – were arrested by the Delhi Police special cell late Wednesday night in Mumbai on spot-fixing charges. Delhi police Thursday afternoon revealed the evidence here at a press conference.
“It is very unfortunate that Delhi Police have arrested some cricket players for their alleged role in the spot fixing in the ongoing IPL tournament. The minister of sports Jitendra Singh has spoken to the chairman of the IPL Rajeev Shukla on the issue and impressed upon him to take urgent steps to put in place a mechanism to prevent such unethical activities and ensure clean sports in the country. The minister also emphasised that strict action be taken against all those who are found guilty to serve as a deterrent to others,” said a ministry statement.
