New Delhi: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) today withdrew the medals from six of the current junior national champions, who failed to provide samsples to the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for dope test.
WFI had requested NADA to collect samples from the Junior National Wrestling Championships that were held in Chandigarh May 9-12.
However, some grapplers, including medal winners, avoided giving samples for the tests, and fled the competition venue.
They were named as Greco-Roman wrestlers Rahul Pal (84 kg) of Madhya Pradesh, Amit (74 kg) of Delhi, Sandeep (60 kg) of Chandigarh and Sunil Kumar (120 kg) of Chandigarh and in Freestyle category Anoop (84 kg) and Manjeet (84 kg), both hailing from Haryana — all have lost their medals and certificates.
“The case of these wrestlers will be forwarded to the Disciplinary Committee of WFI for necessary enquiry. After completion of the enquiry, the WFI will take the final decision,” said WFI secretary general Raj Singh in a statement.
