Paris, May 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Maria Sharapova overpowered Su-Wei Hsieh at Roland Garros, defeating the Taiwanese world No.42 in straight sets.
Sharapova’s 6-2, 6-1 victory Monday came in 54 minutes with her serve topping out at 111 mph. She hit 25 winners, compared with eight by Hsieh.
The Russian world No.2 beat Hsieh for the second year in a row at a Grand Slam event after Round 32 at Wimbledon in 2012.
Sharapova next faces Eugenie Bouchard, the top-ranked Canadian women’s singles player at 77 in the world.
