Kolkata, May 25 (IANS) Mumbai Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar who has been nursing a wrist and hand injury is unlikely to play the Indian Premier League final against Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens Sunday.
“Sachin is doubtful for tomorrow’s (Sunday) game.Although we will take a call on his availability tomorrow but in all probability, he is unlikely to play the game,” Mumbai coach John Wright told media persons here on match eve.
Tendulkar hurt his left hand and wrist while batting during Mumbai’s home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad May 13 and had to retire hurt. He then missed the team’s last two league games as well as the first and second qualifiers against Chennai Super Kings in Delhi and Rajasthan Royals in Kolkata respectively.
Talking about Sunday’s big game, Wright expressed happiness that his team performed well and are deservedly the finalists.
“We are happy to be in the finals. We know we are against a tough side but like all good teams we enjoy challenges. Of course we want to win our first final, let’s see,” he said.
Praising skipper Rohit Sharma both for his leadership and batting, Wright said the team was not only looking forward to him for a big contribution but perform as a team to lift the trophy.
With Mumbai Indians defeating CSK twice in the league games, Wright said that it will surely give them a psychological edge but conceded that CSK have more experience as they have played in five IPL finals and won two of them.
