Moscow, May 7 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia has won four medals at the Chicago Sabre World Cup, including a gold in the men’s team event.
Kamil Ibragimov, Nikita Proskura, Trofim Velikiy and Olympic bronze medallist Nikolay Kovalev beat Hong Kong 45-30, Ukraine 45-43 and South Korea 45-37 before downing Italy 45-40 in the tournament final, Sunday.
On the women’s side, Russians Dina Galiakbarova and Yana Egorian tied for bronze in the individual competition while Galiakbarova, Egorian, Ekaterina Dyachenko and Yuliya Gavrilova placed third in the team event.
Russia’s women are second on the international fencing tour this season behind China. The men, meanwhile, sit in seventh place.
The Chicago Sabre World Cup, also known as the Absolute Fencing Gear Korfanty World Cup, was held May 3-5 at the University of Chicago Flames Athletic Center.
