Oeiras (Portugal), May 3 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova failed to reach the Portugal Open semifinals after suffering a straight-sets defeat to World No.53 Romina Oprandi.
The Swiss player didn’t give her opponent a single break opportunity as she recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory in just 63 minutes Thursday. As a former French Open champion, Kuznetsova has pedigree on clay used here.
This was the first win against Kuznetsova for Oprandi, who has lost all three of their previous clashes.
In the semifinal, Oprandi will play another Russian after third seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and seventh seed Elena Vesnina meet for their quarterfinal.
The Portugal Open, formerly known as the Estoril Open, is a $235,000 tournament.
