New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) The nation Monday paid homage to India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 49th death anniversary.
A remembrance ceremony was held at 6 a.m. at Nehru’s memorial at Shanti Van in the capital.
President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes to Nehru.
A large number of school children also attended the ceremony and paid homage to the country’s first prime minister.
An all-religion prayer meeting was organised at the memorial and devotional songs were sung.
