Milan, May 15 (IANS) Three people were killed in the northern Italian city of Milan when a pickaxe-wielding illegal immigrant from Ghana went on a rampage, officials said.
A 64-year-old victim died at the Milan Policlinic hospital’s neurological intensive care unit Tuesday. He was admitted with head injuries sustained in the savage pickaxe attack, Italy’s AKI news agency reported.
The 31-year-old migrant Mada Kabobo killed two other men and injured four in a 50-minute rampage Saturday before being arrested in Milan’s Niguardia district.
On Monday, 21-year-old newspaper vendor Daniele Carella was declared brain dead, after he was struck with a pickaxe. The other dead man was not identified.
Kabobo was reported denied asylum in Italy.
Milan’s mayor Giuliano Pisapia termed the attack as “tragic and insane events”.
The attacks have sparked a political row in Italy, with politicians calling for a tough crackdown on illegal immigration.
