Madrid, May 13 (IANS) Real Madrid defender Rafael Varane will miss the final of the Copa del Rey and the rest of the current season.
Varane, who has been a revelation in the second half of the season, was forced out of the first half of his side’s 1-1 draw away to Espanyol Saturday night after falling badly and appearing to twist his knee, reports Xinhua.
First indications appeared to confirm those early feelings, but Varane also had a scan here Sunday morning.
The scan confirmed that he has suffered a partial tear of the meniscus ligament in his right knee, meaning he will be out of action for between four to six weeks.
The defender will need an operation this coming week and that means he will not be able to play in the final of the Copa del Rey, which sees Real Madrid take on neighbours, Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium Friday night.
