Lucknow, May 25 (IANS) A gang betting on the Indian Premier League (IPL) was busted here late Saturday and ten people arrested, police said.
The arrests were made from Chowk area of the city after a tip off from a police informer. While the gang leader of the betting syndicate, Mahendra Singh managed to give police a slip, eight others were arrested.
Varanasi Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra told IANS that two “conduits” Aditya and Anshuman Agrawal along with 8 other gang members were arrested by the Varanasi crime branch.
“The people arrested have deep betting roots and were acting at the behest of bookies from Mumbai and Delhi,” he informed further.
The crime branch sleuths also seized three computers, a laptop, 30 cellphones and Rs. 6.4 lakhs from the betting den.
Mahendra Singh was working as local agent for the IPL bookies, police officials said, adding special teams are on his trail.
