Georgetown (Guyana), May 31 (IANS/CMC) A Guyanese cricketer accused of the shooting death of one of his friends in Georgetown has been charged with murder.
Carlyle Barton, who plays for Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), was not required to plead to the indictable offence when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
The 23-year-old cricketer is accused of murdering 39-year-old Shawn Nelson in Georgetown on Monday.
Barton was remanded to prison until June 7 when he will appear in Court 1.
Family members, relatives and other well-wishers packed the courtroom and used umbrellas in an effort to shield Barton from news cameras as he emerged from the hearing.
However, police ordered them to clear the area to allow free passage.
