Panaji, May 2 (IANS) The Goa legislative assembly condoled the death of Sarabjit Singh, death row prisoner in a Pakistani jail, who died Thursday of wounds sustained in a brutal attack in a Lahore jail.
The condolence motion moved by leader of opposition Pratapsing Rane condemned Pakistan for inhuman treatment meted out to the Indian national, who had been languishing in a Pakistan jail for over two decades.
“This house condemns the death of Sarabjit in custody. Pakistan should probe the attack and the culprits should not be spared. This House should offer condolences to the family,” Rane told the Goa legislative assembly, moving the motion.
BJP leader Vishnu Wagh also said that Pakistan should be called an “undemocratic nation”.
“The family of Sarabjit Singh has blamed the central leadership for not handling the issue properly,” Wagh said.
Sarabjit succumbed to severe head injuries received in a murderous attack at the Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore, when two fellow inmates attacked him April 26 with bricks and plates.
He was admitted to a hospital in Lahore and had been in coma since the murderous attack.
