New Delhi, May 9 (IANS) American automobile major General Motors Thursday launched its new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Enjoy.
The vehicles’ petrol version is priced at Rs.5.49-6.99 lakh and the diesel one at Rs.6.99-7.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The GM’s new MVP is expected to compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga, Toyota’s Innova and Mahindar’s Xylo. However, Toyota’s Innova and Mahindra’s Xylo have a starting price of above Rs.9 lakh.
According to the company, it was able to achieve attractive introductory price due to extensive localisation of the components.
“GM India achieved substantial localization at the start of regular production of the Enjoy, which is unprecedented for a global vehicle manufactured in India,” said Lowell Paddock, president and managing director, GM India.
“This is significant not only for the local economy, but also benefits buyers through a lower cost of ownership as a result of lower parts prices and the ready availability of spare parts.”
The vehicle has 60 percent local components.
The MPV’s petrol variant is powered by a four-cylinder 1.4 litre engine which produces a maximum power of 104 PS at the rate of 6,000 rotations per minute.
The diesel fuelled vehicle is powered by a 1.3 litre engine produced at the company’s Talegaon plant in Maharashtra and delivers a maximum power of 77.5 PS at the rate of 4,400 rpm.
