Bangalore, May 19 (IANS) Gayle storm hit Bangalore late Saturday after rains stopped, as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener Chris Gayle lofted Chennai Super Kings bowlers over the ropes four times at the Chinnaswamy stadium in the last league tie of the Pepsi IPL-6 tournament.
Put to bat first in an eight-over innings, the West Indian southpaw rocked the frenzied fans by hitting CSK’s pacer Jason Holder for three consecutive sixes and Chris Morris once, before he perished in the sixth over to Dwanye Bravo for 28 of 13 balls when caught by Mike Hussey.
Though the die-hard fans had to patiently wait for over three hours for the rain-marred game to start, it was worth every minute of it as Gayle rattled the two-time title holder (CSK) with four mighty sixes that made him the most feared batsman by all other IPL teams.
When Gayle suddenly departed, leaving fans shell-shocked, his skipper Virat Kholi took charge of the truncated innings to unleash another four sixes and six fours to remain unbeaten at 56 of 29 balls.
Kohli helped the home team make 106 runs for the loss of two wickets in eight overs.
