Kolkata, May 15 (IANS) Employees’ Provident Fund compliance is very poor in India and just eight percent of the country’s total workforce is currently under the scheme, an official said here Wednesday.
“The compliance level is very poor,” said A. Mahendra Raju, additional central provident fund commissioner.
Raju was speaking at an event organised by industry group Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI).
“Out of the 42 crore total workforce in our country, the compliance is just eight percent,” he said.
“EPF compliance in West Bengal was even worse at six percent,” he said, adding that non-compliance was higher in tea and jute sectors.
